i tried to create a new category and when i did it pulled in the same
contacts as an existing category. I went to edit the new category by
deleting contacts i didnt want in that category and it deleted the same from
the existing category i wanted to keep the same. Can I retrieve those lost
contacts and how do I get my category back.

When you add a "Category", it is just another piece of information
that can be used on your contacts. By this I mean, when you view
contacts by category, it is a VIEW.

Example:
Contact Name is Betty
Betty is my Aunt, so I add her to my category called "Family"
Betty is also a Beautician, so I add her to my "Beautician" category.

When I view my contacts by category, Betty shows up in both
my Family view and my Beautician view, even though I only have
one contact for Betty.

When you deleted your contacts out of the view you did not want
them in, you deleted the contacts.

Next time, simply remove them from the category.

If you did not have a backup of your contacts, I am afraid that you
have lost them.
