How do I REALLY copy a folder tree across a network?

WinXP Home on one end of a crossover cable, Win98 on the other.
That's it, the whole network. And it came up the first try!
I'm astonished. Made the desired folder on the 98 side shared,
It appears in the network neighborhood on the XP side. Wonderful.

I can successfully make a real copy of a single file, that works.

But all my attempts to now really make a copy of that whole folder
tree, using Windows Explorer to drag and drop the folder,
NOT just leave a little link saying where the folder actually is,
just leave the little target.lnk.

I've tried searching microsoft, I've tried google, I've tried books.
It must be really obvious, but can anyone tell me how to do that?
(There are 100 megabytes of small files and directories in that tree
and I don't want to manually copy those one at a time)

When you are copying something that large, the results may not be seen until
the whole operation has been completed. It could take quite a while. Be
patient. Also, DO NOT use cut and paste. Use copy and paste. That way, if
there is an error, you won't lose anything!

Ah, good tip. Checked that. Furious network activity that finishes
in a fraction of a second with a tiny file called target.lnk I believe.
But I can't seem to get it to actually duplicate the files and folders.

Any other ideas for this "discoverable interface"?
(The reason to do this is to make a copy of all the data/documents,
not copying windows apps, registry, etc, just data and documents,
unplug the cable, put the old machine on the shelf as an emergency
backup, and start using the new machine)

Thanks
