How do I re-install Outlook?

My Outlook 2002 is corrupt. I want to remove it and re-install. I am
prepared to lose all data.

When I remove it (Add/Remove Programs) and re-install (from CD) it always
comes back with the same old data and same old problem (cannot send e-mail).

When I try above strategy after deleting pst files Outlook opens but doesn't
have usual folders (inbox, sent, contacts, etc.).

Reinstalling Outlook won't fix a problem that's not internal to Outlook.
Why not post your symptoms in detail, giving your account type, what you've
done to try and correct the problem, and exactly what messages you see when
the problem occurs and perhaps someone can help you.

Naturally your folders are gone. They're in the PSTs you deleted. Did you
expect other behavior?

When I attempt to send e-mail I get error message: Sending' reported error
(0x800CCOF): 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem
continues, contact your server administrator or ISP.'

Earthlink support concluded "the settings in Outlook are corrupted" and
recommended reconfiguring profile. Reconfiguring didn't help. A friend
suggested removing Outlook and re-installing. That's why I'm seeking
assistance on re-installing.

Thanks.

you most probably will have to clean out the old file settings at the
registry level. that is I believe the only way to make sure the old pst
files do not come back, and even though it is a new installation, revert to
the old settings. Do you have any idea how to do that?

BarkBoy; Keep your post/question open, this is a significant bug(s) that the
MVPs can't address and evade by scolding you for not providing enough
information, and it's HIGHLY probable it's "internal to Outlook." It’s also
heresy for them to advocate reinstalling OL03, for a variety of reasons. To
actually get a fresh install of OL03 is, as you might expect with a MS
product, a convoluted hat-trick. I saw the specific details on another board
(they won’t share it here), so I concur with Earthlink; go forward with a
fresh reinstall, you stand a better chance of getting up and running faster
than getting REAL help here.

This shouldn't requite reinstalling. The biggest cause of this is either
failure to properly authenticate to the outgoing server or scanning outgoing
mail with an antivirus scanner (never needed). It can also sometimes be
addressed by increasing the server timeout value on the Advanced tab of your
account properties pages.

Thank you. Wow. Editing at Registry level looks scarey. I read about it
after seeing your answer . . . any advice?

Thanks for ideas. I tried both (discontinue outgoing e-mail virus scan and
increase server timeout), but no luck. As for authenticating to outgoing
server, is there any control I have over that other than making sure settings
are correct in my account profile?

Case closed! My apartment mate, through whom I have wireless access, changed
cable companies. I unknowingly had wrong outgoing server settings all this
time. Thank you for your help and I apologize for the error.

No, but there are several things involved in addition to the
username/password. The SSL setting, for example, must be correct. There's
also another security setting that I can't recall at the moment.
