HOW DO I OPEN A BACKUP IN OUTLOOK

I’ve have been using the backup program for Microsoft Outlook version
2000-sp3 (9.0.0.6627). I have installed the Back Up program available from
Microsoft’s web site After I made a back up, last week as I normally do, of
all my .pst Files, one on my hard drive & one on a cd, all my info.
disappeared. No problem I thought I would just use the backup program and
open one of the backups. But when I do I get the following message…The
Personal Folders file (.pst) “Drive name & Folderâ€. pst could not be opened.
The file may not be compatible with this version of Outlook or it may be
corrupted… I can see the file but it won’t let me open it. File size is 324 MB
What’s the deal I thought this program was going to make it easier to back
up info. in Outlook…. What did I do wrong!! I have not archived in about 6
months
Please help I have lost all of my contacts & emails

My experience has been that the bigger the PST file, the more unstable
it is and the more likely to become corrupt. 324 megs is pretty big. I
have had a few PST's corrupt in my time due to size. Now, I routinely
keep them under 100 megs. I have multiple PST's holding my mail and
contacts. Once for each month. In the future, each time you run the
backup, create a new file instead of over-writing the existing PST.

If the PST is in fact corrupt, you're pretty much out of luck.

Perhaps someone else in the group knows of a utility that could fix this
problem? I wouldnt mind knowing myself
