I have been creating a contact list for my employer ,,, he had me create
catagories, and after 5682 contacts and 256 catagories,, I need to merge them
into smaller catagories,,but I dont want to have to re-type the contacts in
the smaller catagories,,,''Is there a way I can can copy and paste those
catagories, or import them into another catagory without typing 5000
contacts over!!

I can help with tjis but need to clarify a few things....

Do you mean you want to have less categories or smaller ones (which would
each have more contacts in them)?

Are any Contacts in more than 1 Category?

Which version of Outlook?

Is there more than 1 Contacts folder? use the Folder List view to check this
(use the navigation pane on left side of screen to see Folder List).

Not sure what you want to do. If you want to create new categories, you must
do that manually. If you want to rename many categories e.g. by changing
"customer x" to "cust x", the fastest approach is using Category Manager
(see the link in my signature).

If you just have contacts in one folder and want to change their category
from "x" to "y", you can switch to the View by Categories, select all items
of category "x", right click to "Categorize" and change the settings. (With
Category Manager you can do that for multiple folders at once.)
