How do I make a .pps file?

I have an old version of PowerPoint. How can I create a .pps file? Once I
do create it, can I then burn it onto CD? Can it include sound? I'm trying
to create a slideshow of family pictures with music, that I can then give to
all of my family members.

You can go to the File menu and choose Save As. Look for the Save As
type PowerPoint Show (*.pps). You will have to scroll down a bit in the
list of types.

You could burn this to CD. Exactly what you want to do will depend on
whether the sounds were embedded or linked and which "old version" of
PowerPoint you are using.

Way to create a pps file:
Go to the file menu, and click Save As, then choose the type
PowerPoint Show(*.pps).
After you have created it, you can burn it to CD/DVD with sounds
retained.
Here is a tutorial about how to burn PowerPoint show to DVD slide
show:

In fact, you can use some professional tool in this area to help you
directly burn your PPS to CD such as Acoolsoft PPT2DVD
It helps us easily burn PowerPoint to DVD with all things in the
original PowerPoint retained including transitions, animations, sounds
and movie clips.
We can also create DVD menus for our presentation.
You can get more information of it through:

Hope it can hlep
