Hi,

How can I check to see which channel my wireless NIC is currently on?

Thank you in advance. :)

You can do this with utility from the NIC manufacturer,
or any other utility that can query the NIC using standard Windows interface (OIDs)
But this Windows interface has no notion of channels -
you'll get frequency and need to convert it to channel yourself.
If you have access to the wireless Access Point, check it's frequency or channel using it's management mode.

That seems to be specific to the card/driver being used.

For my NetGear, I click the tray icon for it and that info is there.

For my Sharp, which uses the Prism chipset, you start the config
util.

AFAIK, there's no one set place to look.

Check the docs for your wireless hdwe.

Yeah, this D-Link AirPlus DWL-120+ Configuration Utility doesn't show it
in Windows XP, but does in 2000. Someone referred me to NetStumbler and
that was perfect. :)

It is dependent on NIC and software.

On IBM Thinkpad T41p
I can see on IBM Diagnostic Tools.

On Linksys Wireless NIC, you can see at Wireless Network Monitor.
(see manual )

other brand Wireless NIC, see user guide or manual.

Also, check your router setup since that actually controls the channel
using WZC.

Network Stumbler http://www.netstumbler.com/ will tell you all kinds of
information about channels of local wireless networks and could be used
to work out the channel of your nic.

This worked very well. Wow, I never know how many APs are around here! :)

In Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager look in Network
Adapters for the card; double click and on the Advanced page, highlight
Channel to see the value (and adjust it if desired)

It says desired channel, 1. This value never seems to change either.
