How do I keep Cross-References from installing a page break?

Most of my cross-references in the Word Document are fine, but some are
acting as if there is a hard-page break and inserting a new page that begins
with the hyperlinked field for the cross-reference. This is causing havoc
with my document!
How do I prevent this?

You probably have inserted a page break above the heading you're
cross-referencing. It is very easy to get page breaks, figures, and other
extraneous text inside the bookmark for a cross-reference. Some ways to
guard against this are:

1. If you want a page break above a paragraph, use the "Page break before"
property instead of a manual page break.

2. To insert a new paragraph (or any other content) before the bookmarked
text, press Enter at the end of the preceding paragraph instead of at the
beginning of the bookmarked paragraph.
