How do I import .dbx mail files

Thanks also Gordon.

I'm trying to provide as much info as I can about how I got to here.

1. Copied (not exported) the dbx files from my C drive under my identity to
a CD.
2. Set up my new computer.
3. Copied the files to a directory on the new computer.
4. Confirmed the attributes are all ok.
5. I can't be absolutely positive of my identity on the old computer.
6. When attempting to import the messages I go through the wizard and when I
get to nominating the relevant directory it tells me there are no messages
there.
7. I have set up several new identities in an effort to replicate my
identity on the old computer - to no avail.

My thoughts based on my working through the various help sites.

The identity could be an issue - if yes, is there any way around that?
The folders file is there.

That's as far as I've got.

Any further suggestions greatly appreciated.

Is there a file in the directory called "folders.dbx"? If not, the import
won't work with the very same error message you get.

The only way round that AFAIK is in OE to create new folders with EXACTLY
the same names as the old ones. Do not put anything in them. Then close OE
and in Windows Explorer, copy the old folders to the new location. When
asked if you want to overwrite, say "yes".

If of course you have access to the old machine, you could copy over the
file called Folders.dbx and paste it into the directory where you put the
other dbx files. The import should then work.

AFAIK there should be no issues at all with what identity you are trying to
import into. The import function does not depend on any identity

Thanks Gordon - a very simple solution and one which has escaped me for
several days. I'm a happier man now! It has worked for the first folder, now
for the next 50 or so. Laborious, but all those precious emails coming back
to me.

Again, thanks.

You're welcome!

very good info on backing-up and restoring OE for future reference!
