How do I get defined open and close double quote marks?

Using Word, my open and close double quotation marks are identical and look
bad. How do I get the differentiated marks for the open and close quotes?

The appearance even of smart quotes will depend on the characters in the
font, but you can set 'autoformat as you type' to convert straight quotes to
smart quotes and/or use autoformat to convert completed documents.
