How do I get a Windows Media Audio File into PowerPoint?

B

Brad

I have made a power point presentation, and want to insert
music into some of the slides.

I located the songs I want to use on the net and
downloaded them legally via Walmart.com and Napster.

When I try to insert the sound from file, and select the
song, I get an error message that says that powerpoint
cannot dowload this type of file.

I can copy and past the windows media audio file into the
presentation and activate the object, but this causes the
Windows Media player to open up and play the song on top
of the power point presentation -- not smooth.

If I burn the songs to a cd, and try to use the play from
trac option, powerpoint does not recognise the songs on
the cd as tracks like it does on a purchased cd.

It seems that I need to convert the file into a type that
powerpoint CAN insert into a presentation.

How do I do this?

Thanks,
Brad

Are your files WMA (Windows Media Audio) files, or are they a different
extension?

What version of PPT are you using?

When you burned the files to CD, you specified an audio CD in your CD
burning software, right?

A small point, perhaps, but one that might keep the legal bloodhounds off your
back:
I located the songs I want to use on the net and
downloaded them legally via Walmart.com and Napster.

That makes it legal for you to play the songs for your own personal use, but it
probably doesn't include the rights to use them in a presentation. If the
presentation's for personal use as well, I doubt it's worth worrying about,
unless you have a lot of acquaintances who happen to be intellectual property
attorneys for Sony. ;-)

If the presentation's for more public use or for sale/for hire, you might be on
thin legal ice.
