Office 2003 Professional Outlook. How can I get to receive my e-mails.
Error 0x8004210a timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP)
server.
All e-mail account settings are correct.

Are you using any sort of anti-virus scanning program to scan incoming mail?

Is this a new error or something that's always happened with this mail
account?

Relatively new error. It occured a few weeks ago, I contacted ISP
(Virgin.net) and they gave me new servers both in and out mail.virgin.net.
Outlook worked OK until now. I am considering reinstalling Office 2003.
Thanks for your interest Vince!.

Hi Vince, unfortunately re install email a/c did not work. I have now found
several other posts with same error. It seems a common problem that needs a
permanent solution. I am still trying to get it to work. Thanks.

Eureka! Problem solved. If any use to others with this error this is what I
did. Click Norton personal firewall click configure. On the networking tab
click Trusted add the Pop3 mail server address and the SMTP server address,
Click OK.......

This particular problem is starting to grind me down. I too have the same problem: Office 2003 on one section of users encountering the 0x8004210a error and one section using office XP with no error.

All users are Symantec Enterprise clients, all users are connected to Ipswitch IMail, all users are connected via a 100mb network, the imail server is contained in a firewall DMZ.

Microsoft only admit that this affects office 2000/2002 and not above, nothing is found on either Symantec for enterprise or Ipswitch for IMAil.

I don't want to step back from Office 2003 as this is used by the editors and requires the functionality.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Error 0x8004210A

Error 0x8004210A Windows XP /Office 2003 I had the same problem if you remove your e.mail account and add it again you will lose your mail box. I went into my mailbox through my service provider (Virgin Media) and deleted some of my e.mails one e.mail was blocking the others coming through this e.mail looked suspicious try this first could save a lot of time.

Outlook 0x8004210A Solution

I have had this problem for ages, and not previously been able to solve it by the various offered solutions, switch off virus mail scanning, inetcomm.dll, increase timeout, but have found on my setup that the problem is with dual processor operation. If the processor affinity is changed to single processor, the problem stops.

At first, I did this manually, but have found the best application to be Get and Set CPU Affinity v2.36.4.

http://www.geocities.com/edgemeal_software/SetAffinity/index.htm

This can be started automaticallly and configured to change the affinity of Outlook whenever it starts.

Hope this helps someone with this B* irritating problem.

Regards,
Stephen.
