How do I ensure that reply to emails use my default account?

I have two email accounts and have set one as the default. When I create a
new message my default account is automatically picked up, but when I reply
to emails that have been sent to my default account it selects my second
account so I have to change it every time.

Outlook always replies or forwards using the account that received the
original message.

Open or reply to a message and from the view menu select the from field.
This should show up in every message and then you can ensure it is the right
account.

Sorry, but that's not true. The From field does not control the sending
account.

I have this same problem, and the solution proposed does not work. I have
four accounts set up. When mail arrives at my default e-mail address, the
reply button automatically selects the second account in my account list. I
have to select the correct sending account each time I make a reply.

When I select "New", the default acount is selected correctly.

I am stilll using Office Outlook 2007

Are all these four accounts truly separate email addresses, or are they all
aliases of the one master account?

I should have added that information from the start.

Three (3) of the accounts are POP/SMTP and the fourth is my hotmail account
(HTTP). They are all separate e-mail addresses, in fact they are all
different service providers. Both the incoming and outging mail servers are
different, and certainly the account usernames differ.

Don't confuse "account" and "receiving address. If you have two accounts
whose addresses are aliases of each other (i.e., both access the same mailbox
on a server), then any incoming message can be received by either or both
accounts. Add the "E-mail Account" field to your Inbox columns to see which
account actually received the message.

You have opened up a whole new problem for me now. I added the "E-mail
Account" field to my Outlook Inbox, and sure enough those e-mails were coming
from the same account to which the replies are associated. This must be an
association made by my service provider. As you suggested, perhaps two of
these accounts have addresses that are actually aliases of each other.

You have opened up a whole new problem for me now.

Sorry. Didn't mean to cause trouble. However, at least now you know Outlook
is behaving as expected. Are you by chance redirecting one of the accounts to
another at the server level?
