How do I delete a Operating System?

I just recently re-installed windows xp on my cpu thinking that the
instaltion disc would overwrite all the old files. But insted the disc just
installed another windows xp OS and now half my hard disk space is gone, and
I need that space! So can someone please tell me how to delete the previous
operating system that's still stored on my hard drive?!!

And I just wanted to add that only one OS shows up when I go to the boot
menu. But I know that all the other stuff is still on there but I can't erase
it I can't even find it!

You need to start over and delete all partitions,
create a new partition, format the new partition
NTFS, then install Windows XP.

Is there anything/data on the hard drive that you want to save/backup first?
This will determine which procedure is "best".
