This is a really open-ended question, much like "How long is a piece of
string?".

I have put together a slideshow on my site.(Go to Picture Album and click on
one of the 5 Slideshow buttons.) I have written a bit of code around it so
that updating it is relatively easy. Just add some more names and captions,
and adjust a few numbers, and/or add a few lines of code for a new group of
pictures.

This may be more than you want and other here have other solutions based on
free software, e.g. JAlbum.

It may be that all you want is only 10 pictures which rotate in a single
position on the page. This is quite easy and I have posted code for it here
(which I got from one of the experts in this NG). If you want this, I will
post it again (or maybe an expert will reply).
