How Do I Copy My Outlook Files To My New Computer?

A

I exported my Outlook files from my old computer and burned them to a
CD. During the export process, it asked me three times for a password.
When I tried to import these files to my new computer I got "File
access is denied. You do not have the permission required to access
the file." Can anyone help?

Apart from the fact that Import/Export options often lead to corruption -
you should use a simple pst copy -
The pst needs to be on the hd and the read only flag off, before In OL
attempting to open it. NB not import

what's NB not import? The pst needs to be in which hard drive, the old
or new (I can't get it to the new, btw) and how do you turn the read
only flag off? Additionally, both my old and new computer tell me that
I don't know the password to my Personal Files in Outlook. I can
definitely say I haven't set it on either of them. Is there an option
to export the files without password protecting them?

also, if Import / Export files often lead to corruption, how do you
ever get your old emails onto a new computer? Thanks.

Copy the .pst file to the new computer. Open Outlook - use
File->open->outlook data file. Browse to the location of your .pst file and
open it. Voila.

I CAN"T copy the pst file to my new computer. That's the whole
problem. It says "File Access Is Denied" when I try to copy it to the
new computer.

Did you completely close Outlook before trying to make a copy?

You mentioned in your origonal post that during the export process you were
asked three times for a password.
If no password had been origonally set, in OL, then probably you finished up
with a corrupt export.
Go back to the old PC then, with OL closed simply copy the pst(s) to media.
Then from media copy the pst to the new PC, ensure you do not overwrite any
existing pst.
In Explorer locate this pst, check the properties to ensure read only flag
is not set.
Then in OL, on new pst, File>Open>Data File (Personal Folders).....browse to
the location of this pst

Most probably, you have an hidden copy of Outlook working. That
happens when you have any synchronization applet installed, like Palm
Sync, Pocket PC Sync, Phone Sync, or any other.

Open your task manager, look in the Processes list (not in the
Applications list) if there is any process called OUTLOOK.EXE and kill
it.

I CAN"T copy the pst file to my new computer. That's the whole
problem. It says "File Access Is Denied" when I try to copy it to the
new computer.
