How do I configure my one touch buttons to lower volume?

I have a Compaq Presario 2108. It has volume controls on the side of the
laptop, but I broke one of the buttons, the one to lower the volume via the
XP Volume Control. I would like to program one of my One Touch buttons on the
top of my keyboard to lower the volume. I know what to do to program them and
have been able to use the button to open the Volume control but not lower the
volume only.
Is there something that I can type in the command line to accomplish this,
or am I approaching it totally wrong?

Maybe give focus to whatever prog is making sound and use shortcut keys for
it .. Windows Media Player = F9 F10

On laptops there is usually a fn (function key) which is blue and whilst
holding that down you can acess the blue symblols on your laptop. There might
be a Volume up/down function key
