How do I clear the "save as" text box?

I want to clear the history from my text box in the "save as" window in Word.
When I click on the "file name" box to type in a document name a list of all
the recent saved documents shows in the drop down menu. I can't delete them
and I can't even manually backspace them out - they always come back.
Clearing search history doesn't affect this.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?c2xvbmU=?=,

You might try asking in the word.setup.networking newsgroup if someone knows how
this could be done. I suspect it would mean editing the Registry, though, if it
can be done at all.

It can be done, and it does involve the Registry. There's an omnibus article
for Word 7.0 (Word for Windows 95), "WD95: How to Reset Word 7.0 MRU Lists"
at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=161630. There are similar articles for
Word 97 ("WD97: How to Reset Word 97 Most Recently Used (MRU) Lists at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=161631) and Word 2003 ("How to edit
Windows registry to clear the list of most recently used files in Office
2003" at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=826208) but nothing specific for
Word 2002.
