How do I change the settings so that I can automatically type ove.

When I highlight a word or phrase and then type, the highlighted section
doesn't get erased. It just moves to the end of the new word. I am also
unable to highlight a section and use the "backspace" key to delete. How do
I change the settings to allow this to happen?

Tools > Options > Edit, check the option "Typing replaces selection".

To enable the ability to type over selected text go to
Tools/Options/Edit and turn on "Typing replaces selection".
