how do I change mobile number?

I switched from Verizon to Nextel and want to change my
mobile number on my MSN/Windows Messenger. I have
changed it in my Personal Settings, but I am not
receiving any messages. When I click on the Mobile
Settings button in the Messenger, it takes me to a
Verizon site where I put my new number--even though it is
not a Verizon Wireless phone. (Probably not the smartest
thing, huh?) Anyway, the page I keep getting brought back
to is waiting for a confirmation code but it never came
to my new phone. Is there a way to delete the Verizon
Wireless phone from my account and add my new one?
