How do I change default Language setting for comments?

E

Eric

In Word 2003, I'm reviewing a document and inserting Comments. Somehow, the
default Language setting for comments is German. (I know this because when I
type quotation marks, I get the German style of „quote“, rather than the
standard US style "quote".)

I've done control-A to select the entire document, and set language to
English. But it doesn't seem to affect the Language setting for comments.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

By default, comments are applied the style named Comment Text. You can modify
the language setting of that style.

Note that changing the language setting of _existing_ text does not change
any quotes or other characters. You can, e.g., use find and replace to
correct the quotes. Once you have modified the language setting of the
Comment Text style, new quotes you type in comments will be formatted
accordingly.

The language setting of selected text can be seen in the status bar (bottom
of the window). If text with different language settings is selected, the
status bar shows the setting of the first character in the selection.

Thanks. This is helpful. (It doesn't answer the mystery of how the Comment
Text style in the document got the Language=German style in the first place!)

Also, thanks for answering another question that I've been wondering about:
how do I determine the Language applied to a setting. As obvious as it was,
I never noticed the language indicator in the status bar.

(I'm reviewing and editing some articles for an international journal.
Although the articles are in English, some of the contributors are from
Europe, and presumably have different styles and default settings on the
documents.)

Thanks.
