Is this an issue of actually changing the document or just printing in
monochrome/grayscale? Most printers have a setting to do the latter.
Converting the actual document would be much more complicated, but there are
two settings within Word that might affect this:
1. Tools | Options | Compatibility: "Print colors as black on noncolor
printers." AFAIK, Word doesn't know whether a printer is color or
monochrome, so this setting should print in B&W on any printer.
2. Tools | Options | Print: "Draft output." Word's Help says about this
option: "Prints the document with minimal formatting, which may speed the
printing process. Some printers do not support this function." I have never
tried this, so I have no idea what it might do, but it might be worth an
experiment.
