How do delete preconfigured addresses from the browser?

A

Andrew Frank

When I open IE6 and begin typing in a web address I have
somee addresses that seem to have been permanently
written in to the address bar. So for e.g. as soon as a
begin typing www into the bar then i get
http://www3.pokerroom.com appearing in the address bar.
I have tried deleting all history - which gets rid of all
the sites I have previously visited - but does not seem
to get rid of these sites which 'hardwire' themsleves in?

How do I get rid of this ?

Thanks for the help

Hi Andrew,

Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Options > Programs > "Reset Web Settings"
Click the Search button in the toolbar > Customize > AutoSearch Settings >
Select a provider from the list.

Additionally, run Ad-Aware scan (www.lavasoftusa.com). Update it and run a
full system scan, eliminate the parasites causing this problem.

If this does not help, try deleting the following registry keys:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Search Bar
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Search Page
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Start Page
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Default_Page_URL
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Default_Search_URL
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search\SearchAssistant
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search\CustomizeSearch
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Search Bar
