I need to copy and paste a word document into a larger document, but the
first one contains footnotes. How can I highlight both the text and the
footnotes so that I can copy and paste the entire document at once?

Thank you.

There should be no need. If you select and copy the text containing the
footnote reference number, the associated footnote should be automatically
copied along with the reference.

Not only "should be" but is, as I can confirm from experience.
