How can I get XP to stop doing . . .

T

Tony Meloche

Yesterday, I had to do a complete reinstall of my HP printer software.
I followed HP's instructions to the letter, including using their
"scrubber" tool before the new install. New install went fine, and all
works well, both printer and XP, except for one annoyance:

Since the reinstall, every time I boot or reboot my computer, the last
thing that happens before the hourglass disappears from the desktop at
the end of boot is the Windows "Preparing to install" window. It comes
up for anywhere between a split second and 2-3 seconds, then disappears.
As if it's ready to install something, sees there is nothing to install,
and then quits. Everything else works fine, but is there a way I can
get XP to stop doing that? Yes, it is harmless, but very annoying. Any
help much appreciated!

Turn your head away for that two or three seconds...

Thanks to Cathy MVP for the pointer to the Windows Installer Cleanup
Tool, but it made no difference. I probably shouldn't get so annoyed at
this problem - as I said, it doesn't affect functionality in any other
way - but it's a "burr in the blanket".

a pretty useless response if you ask me, either offer usefull help or shutup.

And your respose was more helpful?

At least they posted their reply down HERE where it belongs,
top-poster.

Oh, get serious, another whiner about where the post belongs, it reads just
fine with me, so tough.
