How can I delete a 'locked-for-editing" file?

Henry,
I am having a similar problem with Excel in Office
XP. We just got new computers with Office XP loaded on
them. I have three files on a network drive that I
opened, used some information and then closed the files
as they should be. The next time I tried to open the
file I got the message you were talking about except the
user who has the files locked for editing is myself. I
spoke with our IT dept here, but they said "Do a copy and
paste to a new file." I have done this to work on the
files further, but I want to know how to 1) Break the
connection to myself in these files or 2) Delete the file
so they don't junk up my network drive.
As you may guess I haven't been able to get a good
answer to this so I am answering your e-mail in an
attempt to get someone else who knows the answer to
reply. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
