How can I consolidate my program list

Using XP Home, I'm getting so many programs on my computer, the list is
running off the screen. (Please don't tell me to uninstall/delete
programs). I'm wondering if there is some way to consolidate my list of
programs so when I click Start > Programs I don't have to contend with
a list that is three columns wide and the third column can't be read. I
would think there is some way to perhaps narrow the columns, but I
can't figure out what that might be. I also thought of creating folders
in which to put programs as a last resort. Thanks in advance for any
suggestions that you've found have worked for you.

What you calll "a last resort" is the best thing to do.

Your "last resort" isn't as bad as you think. Simply create new folders and
consolidate common items such as Utilities, Graphic Apps, Games, Microsoft Apps,
etc. It works well.

Or you can activate the Use Personal Folders option which will then only display
the most commonly used selections.

I don't know why you think creating folders in your Start Menu should be
a "last resort". It's just good organization. Right-click on your Start
button and choose "Explore". Now make new folders for the different
categories of your software. You might want a folder for OEM programs
(Dell, HP, etc.), one for Graphics, one for Productivity, one for Music,
etc. Then simply right-click/drag/move the shortcuts for the programs to
the folders.

An alternative is to right-click on the Start button and choose
"Properties". You can put a check in the box to Scroll Programs.
Personally, I find the scrolling programs option unbearable but you
might like it.

you can right click on the start
button and select explore.

then you can arrange the
program shortcuts as easily
as managing files and folders.
