How can I connect my laptop to a peer-to-peer connection

I have two desktop computers both running XP networked,
through a peer-to-peer connection,
what I'd like to do from time to time is connect my
laptop, also running XP to this network,
to gain internet access. As there is currently one
network cable running between the two
desktop pc's, will connecting my laptop require me to
disconnect one of these desktop pc's,
or is there another alternative way? My laptop does have
wireless networking built in.

The simplest solution would be to get an inexpensive network hub or
switch, connect one of the desk tops to the uplink port using the
crossover cable that now connects your two desktops, and connect the
other desktop and the laptop to regular ports using regular Ethernet
cables.

A much more complicated solution would be to add a wireless network
adapter to one of the desktops, set up an Ad-Hoc wireless network
between it and the laptop, and create a network bridge on the desktop
between its wired and wireless network connections.
