How can I add a date automatically on each page of as single file

1. I am revising a handbook/manual and want to automatically add the date in
the footer and need to do this on each individual page of a file (The
Manual). The purpose of this is to be able to make revisions to individual
pages with out redoing the whole manual.

2. Is it possible, when making revisions to a page, and the page runs over
to an additional page/s that the new page number/s can be automatically
revised in the manual index and the table of contents?

Indexes and TOCs will update page numbers automatically when the fields are
updated, but there is no practical way to put the current date on selected
pages.
