How big shoudld I make my partition with 512MB CF and EWF?

Gustaf

Hi,

I have a 200MB image that will run on a 512MB CF with EWF RAM overlay.
How much space is needed for the EWF? I read in Sean Liminig's book
"Windows XP Embedded Advanced" that he recommended a partition of 450MB
for a 512MB CF.

Will a bigger partition cause any problems? After FBA the EWF volume is
0MB and 38MB is unpartitioned. Isnt this a waste of space or do EWF use
this 38MB during setup? How big should I make my partition?

Many Thanks,
Gustaf Sandmark

Hi Gustaf,

You can use Registry configured RAM EWF so you won't need any space after
your OS partition for EWF data.
Best practice would be to create one unprotected data partition after the OS
partition for your configuration data. (if you need it of course)

Hi Slobodan,

Thank your for your reply.
The registry configured RAM EWF sounds perfect for my product, no space
loss.
Is there any disadvantage using registry configured ewf instead or
partition configured ewf if I only have 1 partition or am I good to go?

Hi Gustaf,

ewfmgr C: -disable will not work with registry configured RAM EWF.
ewfmgr C: -commitanddisable is working on both RAM EWF configuration and can
be used.

So you should determine if you need plain disable or you can live with
commitanddisable.

Slobodan
