Hover Button Problems

I hope this message is appropriate for this group. The newsgroup I used to
access no longer seems to be available.
I am using Frontpage 2000, and my server does not have FP extensions. I am
not able to get hover buttons to work any more (they used to work fine).
Whenever I create a hover button, either using the FP settings, or using a
graphic, all I get is a grey rectange of the specified size once it is
uploaded to the server. I can't work out what is going on.
Also, can anyone suggest a better way of getting hover effects such as sound
on mouseover or click than the FP hoverbutton?

Hover buttons require that Java Virtual Machine
is installed on the viewers computer.
Windows XP with IE6 no longer has JVM installed.
It must be downloaded and installed by the user
from Sun-java.

For this reason, most folks no longer use hover buttons.
JVM and javascript are two entirely different things.
Just because a machine will run javascripts, does not
mean it will run applets and class files which require JVM.

Hover Buttons are Java applets. In the past year, as an outcome of the legal
wranglings between Sun (authors of Java) and Microsoft, the Microsoft Java
Virtual Machine was removed from Microsoft operating systems. Therefore,
there are a lot of computers out there that won't display Hover Buttons. It
is best to avoid using them.

You can use JavaScript to get the same effects. There are a couple of
contributors to this newsgroup that have add-ins for FrontPage that can
automate their creation. Or you canwrite your own JavaScript, if you have
any programming/JavaScript skill.
