Hotbar

Need help...somehow, a program called "hotbar" got
onto/into my OS. Now,everytime I go to any web page or
use Outlook, hotbar reconfigures my e-mail or my webpages
and slows down the system. I have tried to delete it but
is has a block so you can't delete the program or certain
files. Any help with ridding my system of this?
Thanks

Hotbar has been known to be associated with spyware programs. Anti-virus
software and firewalls do not fully protect your system against the majority
of spyware and privacy threats. Spyware is commonly bundled with software
downloads, attached to e-mails, or transmitted through networks so it can
appear to be legitimate software, but once installed it can be nearly
impossible to detect and remove without the help of a dedicated spyware
removal tool such as:

Ad-Aware 6.0

SpyBot 1.3

SpyWare Blaster

HiJackThis

Please make sure that you download the updates for each of these programs to
ensure complete detection of known spyware programs. Although nothing is
absolute in removing spyware and keeping it off, downloading and executing
the programs above can dramically decrease future infections.

Ad-Aware 6.0

That should be AdAware 6.181 Version 6.0 has not been supported for
some time now.

Not to get into symantics Ron, but it is still listed as Ad-Aware 6.0. The
6.181 is the build number. So we are both correct. Thanks for the addition!

Yes, but there are a number of people who did download the 6.0 build
and are still running it, not aware that there are no more updates
being issued for that version. I see 1 or 2 systems that way every
week.

Thanks for the info. Spybot 1.2 is the same way. It will not accept updates
anymore and people think they are up to date when it says "no updates
available."
