Hosts

Hello Everyone,

I am relatively new to Win XP Home. Would someone Please tell me where
the real Hosts file is to be located in Windows ? I have found two on my
system. They are located,

C:\Windows\I386
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

When I open them in Word Pad they appear to be identical.

Will the Real Hosts file Please stand up.

Any advice, Please, is Greatly Appreciated.

Thank You,

Wayne

The Hosts file that your computer is currently using is the one in
System32.

The other one is the original file that Windows used to install the one that
Malke mentioned.

Don't mess with it (the one in the i386 folder) because it's a backup copy.

The working copy of the file is the one in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc

All of the files in your C:\Windows\i386 folders are backups of the
original XP files (original install on your system). "i386" is not a
default folder that is normally created during an XP install. Most likely
it is a customization that was added by the OEM for your system.

Thank You Both for your replies.

Malke,

So if I do modify my Hosts file, does it go into

C:\Windows\System32

or stay in

C:\Widows\System32\Drivers\etc

Sorry to be picky, but computers are pretty exact. at times
