Hosts file -- how many should there be?

Have been hearing that there may be a way to alter someones hosts file
through an e-mail script, so I have become curious.

How many "hosts" or host type files should there be in XP?

I have the following:

hosts
lmhosts
network
protocol
services

Are they all legit?

Thanks,
Bob

One - in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

The others are legit. If you have a 2nd "hosts" file anywhere, it may be
bogus.

You have a *file* called "network"?

There should only be 1 of each of the others.

Yes. Actually "networks". Sorry. And it has one uncommented line as
follows:

loopback 127

Yes. Only one of each of the others.

Like others have already said - that all looks OK, <grin>
