HOSTS file doesn't work

J

Joel

This is not exactly a DNS question, but I figured I would
post it here. All of a sudden, my HOSTS file stopped
working on my win2kpro sp4 box.

The file is located in c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc

I have created a new HOSTS file, with one entry:

127.0.0.1 test

Then after saving the file, and even restarting the
computer, if i try:

ping test

I receive unknown host. I also cleared the dns resolver
cache, with ipconfig /flushdns, but it did not help.

Is there some setting I am unaware of that disables HOSTS
file name resolution??

Any ideas?

Thanks

My first guess would have been the Qhosts virus, which has been circulation
around lately. But glad you got it fixed.
