Hostpot login window does not appear

ah

It happens sometimes that when I am trying to access the Internet at a
hotspot, the WiFi provider's login window does not appear. Therefore I can
not logon and access the Internet. There must be a setting somewhere in XP
that prevents this window to pop up. If there are more than one WiFi
provider on this hotspot, the other provider's windows appear on my screen
without any problem.

I thought that it was a browser problem (I use IE7) but I tried with Firefox
and had the same problem.

I tried deactivating my firewalls, deleting Internet files, cookies but
nothing works.

Both FF and IE have anti-malware features that interfere with legitimate
non-malware. You are experiencing one case of that.

Firefox has anti-pop-up and anti-scripting settings. IE has anti-pop-up and
website trusting mechanisms. Any non malicious website may trigger any one of
these settings. Neither deactivating firewalls, deleting temporary Internet
files, nor clearing cookies will change any of that.

You're going to have to find the specific anti-malware setting that's blocking
the popups that you are looking for. I, personally, use Firefox. Depending
upon the extensions that you have loaded, you could be looking at popup
blocking, script blocking, or maybe even a certificate issue. IE and its zone
trusts will be another story.

Try and be more specific. Is this one problem hotspot, or a chain? If a chain,
is it a chain using the same hotspot service in all locations? The whole
hotspot situation is getting very interesting, and it changes all of the time.

It happened with the chain of McDonalds, that provide free WiFi access in
Paris and with BTOpenzone in Paddington Station in London.

Thank you for your help. I'll explore the popup possibilities next time
this happens.
