I have a laptop with Windows XP Home edition with SP2, when i try to upgrade
to Windows XP Professional, i am getting a error "The version is older than
that in the CD". Please help me how to upgrade the same with out loosing any
data/drivers.

The Windows Home is a OEM edtion and Professional id full edition.

This means that your installed OS is at a higher service pack level
than is the WinXP Pro CD you're using. You'll either need to uninstall
SP2 (Control Panel, Add/Remove programs) before attempting the upgrade,
or try slipstreaming SP2 into older WinXP installation.

You need to slipstream your XPpro CD

You have installed SP2 on your Home, Pro is SP1 and won't replace
older files.

It sounds like the version of XP Pro you are trying to upgrade to does not
have Service Pack 2 included. I believe your options are to uninstall
Service Pack 2 then perform the upgrade or slipstream Service Pack 2 into an
installation point of XP Pro and install from there.
