Home Page Anomaly

Greg Matthews

Hi all,

I usually keep my homepage as the "blank page" option. I had a problem with
my PC recently and security settings were thought to be the cause of the
problem. I was getting a rogue search engine page showing each time I
opened up IE. The "blank page" option remained, and if I selected the home
page icon, the blank page appeared.

The search engine page is no longer showing, but instead, I am gerring the
standard "page cannot be displayed" option, each time I open IE. I have
been asked to go through some security settings in IE Options to see if this
resolves the problems, which I have done, but this did not resolve the
problem. I have run Spybot, Ad-Aware, Norton Internet Security and nothing
appeared to cause the problem.

Therefore, any ideas on how I get rid of the "page cannot be displayed" page
appearing each time I open IE?

Thanks

Greg.

Hi,

Thanks for this.

I had already run Coolwebsearch prior to sending this message. I did this
again, as there was an update to the program. I have, prior to the inital
message, and when getting the problem, run Ad-Aware, Spybot, Norton Internet
Security, and still the problem remains.

Any other suggestions?

Greg.

Go to: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware]

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic" and post a description of your symptoms. If they need to
see your log they will ask for it.
