Home Network with XP Home and XP Pro computers

I have two network I built and I am seeing a common theme.....On my home
network I have a desktop and laptop both running XP Pro and another desktop
running XP Home.....I setup the network....Disabled the Windows
Firewall....Enabled print and file sharing on the internal network through
BitDefender Firewall.....Everyone can access the internet and see shared
files on the network....Everyone was also able to print....The computer
running XP Home was able to print once and has not been able to print
since.....I verified all connections, deleted and reinstalled the printer,
verified that we have the most up to date drivers, there were no changes to
the network, there were no changes to any PC, yet the one computer running XP
Home has lost it's connection to the printer and I can't get it back.....I
was starting to go a little crazy until the same thing happened on my Mother
in laws network, which I also built and is very similar to mine. The
difference is there are only two computers on her network....1 Desktop
running XP Pro and her laptop running XP Home.....He laptop has also lost
connection to the printer......

Any thoughts here? It seems as thought this is a particular issue with how
XP Home networks/shares....Is anyone aware of hotfix/patches to correct this
issue??? Has anyone experienced this? Next is to open a specific case with MS
directly...

You could always try to get the IP address of the computer that has the
printer attached to it and add that address and computername into your Hosts
file manually. Can you ping the computer by name??

Thanks,

I will give that a try....I had not attempted to do that...However, I know
that the computer is reachable since my husband and his friend link up and
play games together on these two computers using IPX/SPX....Network access
works for this one PC otherwise, the only exception is printing...I will
still attempt this and respond to let you know if it worked....

I am having exactly the same problem as jamato. My XP pro computer
identifies the XP home one, but the Home doesn't acknoledge the XP Pro
computer. On the XP Home computer I can ping the other by IP address and by
name. How do you manually enter the computer into the Hosts file? That
sounds like it may help me?

Thanks
