I'll make this quick, and only comment on the bits I agree with.

Probably excessive, but it's your money!

Consider Logitech.

Very happy with my Logitech MX 700 mouse and Logitech Elite (Internet
Navigator).

That's quite a budget you've got to work with. No really bad choices, but
you might have trouble running an Opteron on those Intel-chipset
motherboards ;>(

Get the cheapest floppy you can find. If you spend $15 you spent too much.

Why bother with a zip drive? Why not just get a dvd burner and store 5GB?

3Eprd_id=391607

Overkill. 1GB is plenty

I have this card - excellent - Nvidia is poorer for Half Life 2, need I say more?

Get 2 120GB and stripe them (RAID 0)

Yes, and your wonderful hardware will always be second-rate and near-
obsolete 6 months after you build your computer. Why not wait for
Prescott and PCI-Express............. ? If I were you I would
certainly wait until the software you really want to run on your
nice shiny machine goes GOLD. Then you can make a final decision
on configuration plus save a lot of money. In the US, hardware is
delivered in 3-4 days ( free Fedex Super-Saver).

2 weeks after a tiitle goes GOLD before it shows up in the retail or
on-line-purchase channels. Plenty of time to receive the hardware
and build the dream machine...........

Jeez, for $400 he should just get a pro and skip a weekend of hard work.

Is that a $400 pro to replace the girlfriend on the cruise or a $400 pro to
do the PC build? Be precise. One is a bargain, the other is not ;>)

This post, like most similar, is probably just a wish list from somebody
daydreaming about state-of-the-art hardware, or a rich kid who has figured
out that Dell doesn't use the best components but hasn't found any of the
custom builders who do and is wondering if he might be able to put it
together himself.

The list itself shows he has a bit more homework to do before he makes any
of those decisions.

The girlfriend, of course.

In full agreement on the B.S. post. I view all of them as an attempt to
start some flame wars. Anyone who is actually trying to build a system will
usually post more precise questions. (i.e. one component vs. another).
This one was just some wanabe trying to yank an nonexistent chain.
