HL 2240 Monochrome Laser Printer
Any users of this product and your comments ?

I have used the similar HL 2040 since July 2008,
first (supposedly) with 12,000-page drum and 1,500-
page toner, replacing the latter Sept. 2010 (Atlantic
brand replacement $30.) This printer is left permanently
switched on (with an inkjet multifunction on the same PC
as well.). It works well for my needs. The front panel
single-page feed is convenient for small print jobs on
the back side of used paper.

They sell a conversion kit for the Starter Cartridge. LOL.

Have you used a toner refill kit ?

I went with a laser printer because I was told it has lower print costs compared to Inkjet Printers.

I have a Canon MG 2220 MG all-in-one.

I have a refill kit for it, but I got pis*ed off when I discovered than Canon INTENTIONALLY designed it with a "low absorbent" foam for the ink.

I had refilled it twice and wondered why it did not last long considering how few pages I had printed.

I replaced the foam with a more absorbent foam, but the cartridge would not print.

Go figure. :)

Take care.

Andy

Canon has been added to my "Never ever buy from list."
The list includes H.P. and Sony.

Just because you find a funny material in usage,
there's usually engineering involved. Unbelievable engineering.

http://www.google.com/patents/US5289212

"at those times during operation in which an individual nozzle
or an entire printhead is not actively emitting a droplet of
ink, it is important that a certain negative pressure, or
back pressure, exist in each of the nozzles and, by extension,
within the ink supply manifold of the printhead."

"Ink is stored in a medium of reticulated polyurethane
foam of controlled porosity and capillarity."

"It has been found that the optimum density of this polyester
needled felt forming medium 18 is 0.095 grams per cubic centimeter"

Just in case anyone else is confused: Andy has switched from talking
about laser printers to talking about inkjet ones, where I've put the
*** line. (AFAIK, no laser printer has foam in the ink tanks; they use a
powder ink.)
