Hit counter

J

jesse

I want to put a hit counter on my website so I can keep
up with how many people visit my website and each page. I
have over 300 pages and want a hit counter for each one
so I can see if they are getting hits.

Frontpage has a hit counter but I want the hit counter to
do two things...

1. I want to see the hit counter but not the visitors.

2. I visit my site often and don't want to add to the
hits because of me. On previous hit counters that I have
used, you can choose for it to ignore your hits but
haven't seen it work yet.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,
Jesse

Just register for one counter, and put it on every page. You can set it to
ignore your computer, and it will tell you which pages are being viewed, and
which site is sending you traffic. It can also regularly email you stats.

Jesse do you use this and how do you like it if you do. It looks like a
nice thing to have. I visited the page you posted but am hesitant about
adding anything that might cheap up my new site. I am wondering about all
the restrictions and if they would be tracking ME and the people that visit
my site. Is this reliable or is this intrusive spamware.. Sorry to to be so
critical but I am a newbie and don't run a professional adware site. (yet
that is)

Thanks for any replies

If the counter resides anywhere else but your server it will very likely be
gathering information about your site as well, your best bet is a CGI counter
that resides ONLY on your own server and keeps the count and statistics ONLY on
your server.
CGI counter are not easy to set up but once you get them going they are very
reliable and secure.
Try: www.chami.com 's Live Counter
I have used his counters for years, some are free with great statistics (I don't
know how he does it) and he's great with support.

And no, I don't get a comission, I'm just a satisfied customer :)

Thanks cabinboy. This all rather new to me. I have just learned enough HTML
and Java to get a rather nice looking site unway and need all the pointers I
can get. I have a counter available with the comcast free web space and PWP
wizzard but for some reason the counter doesn't work and their NG is a ghout
town with no responces. I was wondering what others used. I will give it a
try.

All the (all useful) information that is gathered is automatically sent by
your browser when you visit a site. It is all stored on the webserver, but
good counters can access this information.

So is what you are saying is that info from my computer when I access the
site to add the counter is sent to their site then when I add their counter
and use it info from users that access my sire is stored on my computer and
then sent to the site of the originators of the counter I use? I hope I
understand this and not ask stupid questions. I am just learning all this
stuff and it is really new to me.
