History Won't Work

L

Lynn

Does anyone know why my history won't work?
Or how to make it work again?

It used to work just fine. But for the last month or so,
all of a sudden there is nothing there when I open it, All
it says HISTORY.IE5 then a subfile or whatever, called
index.dat.
I am running IE6 so why it says that I have no clue.

I need my history to work as I have memory problems and
can never remember where I was when I saw that cool this
or that...lol

Besides, it just bugs me when things dont work right.

I have it set in "Internet Options" to keep the history
for 4 days.. and like I said...it used to work just fine.
Please help someone!!!!

ps..do questions really get answered here.. I was looking
over things before I decided to post and I never did find
any answered. Maybe it's because I have never done this
before and simply have no clue how it's all done and I
missed some link or some such.
Anyway..
Thanks ahead of time for any and all help you can give me.

Lynn,
This can be caused by the ActiveX Control filters in McAfee AntiVirus. If
you disable the "Active X Controls" filter under the Internet Filters in
VirusScan 6.0 the IE History should work properly.

Your History folder may be damaged.
See: How To Delete the Internet Explorer Temporary Internet Files:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
Note: Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder and a new one will be created when you restart.

You posted via the CDO interface from MS Support. That's an awkward way to
post or search. I'm amazed that anyone ever manages to post or find an
answer.

Thank you Don

I have read all you suggested and tried what I could.
I even did the newsgroup thing... (I hope I'm doing this right)..
anyway...
Thanks for trying.. Nothings worked yet unfortunately.
I don't have that antivirus program.
I got the eraser and did it. Didn't help.
I went to and read all the sites.
Sighs..
Still no history showing.
When I open it, all I see is
"History.IE5" (which is odd since I am running IE6 NOT 5 ) and if clicked
on
"index.dat"
There's no "Today" nor anything else other than that.

I have read alot in the last couple of days about folks wanting to delete
history..lol..
I just want to have it show so I can find pages again that I have gone
to...lol

Well just wanted to say thanks and if you should ever run across a cure..
please let me know...
And if anyone else should happen to know anything that could help.. I would
be grateful.

Thanks everyone...
Lynn

ps= am new to newsgroups..please let me know if I messed up and how to do
better... TY :)

Hi,

Try History Collector Pro. It is a Internet Explorer add-on
for storing history.

History Collector saves web pages locally on your computer; therefore you
can always view the pages that had been visited several days ago - even if
you are off-line.

Are you running any type of privacy/security program that could be causing
this? Did you install any programs just before this problem started?

Have you tried to repair IE?

Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q318378

BTW... good job of setting up OE as your newsreader. ;-)
