www.hot-search.com has hijacked my IE home page, any idea how to get rid of
it?
Homepage hijacks with a search page are usually the CoolWebSearch
malware. It is very hard to get rid of. Try the solution - the
CWShredder. Read about it here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html
and download from here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

If the above don't cure the problem, get this program
http://www.net-integration.net/tools/hijackthis.html
and submit the results to their forum. This page will help non-novices
figure out on their own what the HiJackThis log indicates:
http://hjt.wizardsofwebsites.com/

BTW, Spybot's link is:
http://www.safer-networking.org/
Be sure to get the latest updates after installation and before scanning.

Hiding head in shame.......should have attributed this to you....it was such
a good explanation that I saved it, Sir Beau.

From here on it I will add your nom de plume.....lol.

Oh so that is how it is, whey you do it and say something almost cute, all
is ok; but when I did it and even had my paper print a correction, even to
this day I still get called a plagiarist? It's ok though because I know I
am not a plagiarist and that it is only those with tiny minds that keep
calling me one even after *I* formally apologized to the author and he said
that it was ok and my paper printed a correction but still you and others
call me a plagiarist. I guess it is just some sort of double standard, or
that I am just not a member of the same good old boy club that you are.

Give it a rest, you dolt!! I thought this was by one of the MS MVP's who
don't usually post on here. I happen to have at least 8 sets of hijack
instructions, but due to Merijn's site being down, I happened to pick on
Beauregard's excellent one to post because he gave an alternate site to
download from.

That is all there is to that story.......and I do wish you would stop your
incessant whinging!! Would you like me to post the other 7 so you could see
for yourself???

Giving instructions on how to get rid of Cool Web Search or a browser
hijacker is hardly the same as being a code ripper!! Or Plagiarist......or
3 bricks short.......or owing Nick 8 computers....and so on.

And I will let you in on a little secret......I am not one of 'da good ole
boys'.....I Am Woman!! (Humming a little Helen Reddy here, grin)

That is one of the very reasons why I forgot to give credit (for which
I was and still am being called a plagiarist); because I was doing research
for my article and forgot to place quotes around one or two sentences which
I copied from a NG post, I was doing research and placing quotes around
anything I got from online and not placing quotes around my original
material.

That is all there is to that story.......and I do wish you would stop your
incessant whinging!! Would you like me to post the other 7 so you could
see

If in the other 7 you also posted the information that you copied and
pasted about how to fix a problem or what ever you copied and pasted if you
didn't give credit to the original poster from whom you copied the fix from
their post then you are as much a plagiarist as what I was for forgetting to
quote my source, only you did so several more times then the ONE time I
mistakenly did.

It is never whining when someone posts lies about you and you reply with the
truth. It could only be considered thus by those that make the false
accusations and which to make there false claims and don't with anyone to
reply with the truth there for the call it whining; because they only want
their false side to be heard:p

for yourself???

Giving instructions on how to get rid of Cool Web Search or a browser

It doesn't mater what it was you posted as being yours when it was in fact
*not*; because when you quote something from another persons post as your
own it is considered plagiarism, or at least when I did the exact same thing
I was call one. The way I read the post of yours in question you posted as
yours what someone else had posted, and whether it was how to get rid of
the cool web search; isn't even the point; because I was called a plagiarist
for having done exactly what you did. I quoted what someone had said in
another NG and then because I forgot to surround it in quotes and give
credit I have been called a plagiarist every since. Then even after the
original author stated that it didn't mater because they thought that they
had read it some where else and more then likely was just paraphrasing and
even after I printed and apology in my column (and here) and my paper
printed a correction the very next day, I have to date still been called a
plagiarist. So what did you do differently to not be called one? well other
then be a part of the good ole boy club or since you say gender makes then
imposable, shall I call it a click?
hijacker is hardly the same as being a code ripper!! Or Plagiarist......or
3 bricks short.......or owing Nick 8 computers....and so on.

When you quote something from another persons post as your own it
does. Well at least it did when I did it; because I quoted what someone had
said in another NG and then because I forgot to surround it in quotes and
give credit I have been called a plagiarist every since.
BTW, I am no more a plagiarist then what you are; because I did nothing
more then what you did. I also am not a coderipper; because that implies
stealing the code and I have never stolen code, all the code I have ever
used which I didn't author was obtained from free source code sites. Also
Nick knows he lost the bet as does anyone that knows how to read the logs;
but he just won't admit it; because when I offered to obtain and post the
logs from my ISP he maintained that because the graphics were not at the
same ISP as what the page was that the page was not hosted at the ISP, I did
and still do contend that where the index.html was hosted is where the web
page was and it is irrelevant where anything it pulled into the page was at.
He knows I am right and anyone that knows anything about web pages knows I
am right also.
And I will let you in on a little secret......I am not one of 'da good ole
boys'.....I Am Woman!! (Humming a little Helen Reddy here, grin)

Being a Good ole boy has nothing to do with gender. It refers to a way to
treating one group of people that are in the *in* crowd differently then
those that are not.
btw,
how long , or how many posts my me and a few others calling you a plagiarist
do you think , it would take before you starting *whining* about how you
*did nothing wrong* and that you *aren't a plagiarist*? I know how many
before you lash out saying how even though you posted another's words as
your own that *you* don't consider your self a plagiarist.

The author whom I forgot to credit by putting quotes around his NG post
said almost word for word the same thing to me; but of course that didn't
keep a few from this and ACV from calling me a plagiarist, back then, and
continue to this day doing so and that was what is it now, hmmm, almost 2
years ago.
I never have figured it out, what it is that makes some here think they
can get away with lying about me for doing the exact same thing that others
do; but those that are part of the *in crowd* are not called names for
having done the same thing.
Oh well, I know the truth about how I am not guilty of anything they
have accused me of, God knows the truth of it , and at the end of time those
that lie and bare false witness against me, will also know the truth and the
terrible consequences for having lied.

Thank you kind sir......and I did check and Merijn's site is back up.
So I will probably use your post and also one of Siljaline's wherein he sets
out the routine for Hijack This. Sure a lot easier than retyping it.

Btw.....do you really think showing someone where to get the appropriate
program to fix their computer is copyrighted?? (just kidding). If it were
so, we would go nuts on every help group, grin.

Quote......"Try defragging in Safe Mode or download ScanDefrag
4.2"......attributed to Tom, Dick, Harry, Beauregard, Mike, Rick, Shane,
Joan, and me. Just for starters. Kinda ridiculous, non?

Cheers.....Heather

Personally, I doubt if any post such as the one of mine you saved is
actually copyrightable [but IANAL]. I certainly didn't search around
to see if the same exact words I wrote ever appeared anywhere else.
If it were so, we would go nuts on every help group, grin.

How true. ;-)

Huh? Heather's recent copy/paste "instructions" weren't submitted to
her hometown newspaper column, by her, as her own words. She was
simply trying to help someone in a newsgroup.

Who is this mysterious "they" and why do "they" upset you so much?

Anyway, Sugien... did you ever stop to think that maybe your uhmmm...
"online persona" is kinda reminiscent of a immature, self-important,
whining dipshit? Seriously, if you're really not like that in RL, then
why...?

It doesn't mater where it is done; because taking credit for others work is
the same if done only here or in Time magazine

Because it is fun to rub peoples faces in their self rightness, expressly

at least you gave the twit credit for his!, lol. What are you laughing at
any way? Clay proved my point; because plagiarism is plagiarism whether it
is just here or in an article in Time magazine, well at least that is what
was bandied about when I did the same thing, well other then she didn't use
it in a newspaper column; but to my way of thinking what she did was seen by
far more readers then my little column, so she more or less had the larger
offence, well if the offence is measured by how many read the purloined
text.
