higher math freeware that's user-friendly?

I'm looking for some freeware that will handle higher math (High
school, college, grad student levels). Mathematica, Maple, geometer's
sketchpad, etc, are comparable payware that come to mind. (I name them
only as reference points, not to sell them.)

I have found several math freewares -- more on linux than windows --
but the ones I've found are not very intuitive nor user-friendly. By
this I mean that the user doesn't know how to achieve his objectives,
nor how to find out. The tutorial and help files are minimal, and
presume that the user already knows how to use the software.

Can someone direct me to a math freeware that has a decent tutorial,
and preferably is intuitive?

Thank you very much.
