Hiding mapped drives

Our users require certain network drives to be mapped for
applications to work although we do not want the users to
be able to see these drives in windows explorer.

is it possible to hide these drives?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tweak UI (from Microsoft) for Windows XP has this ability to set mapped
drive (or any drives) to be invisible in explorer. The drive will still be
usable using normal commands. You could do it using registry editor directly
but I do not know what keys.

thanks anyway lads, but i found a nice little program that
does the trick for free very nicely indeed.

it's called HDHide.exe and restricts the users by way of
not seeing the drive although they can still use
applications being used by the drive in question.

i can mail it to you if you want it. i'll keep an eye on
this subject.

Hi

I found HDHide.exe at http://www.winsite.com:
http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?3500000036030

and it does the same registry update that is described here:

http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/148/

Further testing shows that those registry values apply to mapped network drives
as well.
