Hiding email addresses from robots?

C

Clark

Is there any trick to use that would prevent spam robots from finding
an email address related to a mailto: link on a site?

For example a "Contact the webmaster" might have the link mailto:
(e-mail address removed) which sooner or later attracts spam to the
address (e-mail address removed). I just changed the alias from
(e-mail address removed) to (e-mail address removed) to stop getting spam at
the former address , and I was *shocked* that it only took 3 days before
I got the first spam at (e-mail address removed)

Right now, the only thing I know to do is to periodically change the
aliases as in the above example, which does cut it down a lot, at least
for a while. But -- is there a good trick out there?

If you would look through the many posts over the past few days regarding
this subject, you would see some solutions.

There is a program called SpamProofer (http://www.scriptek.com/cgi-bin/stekstat?http://www.scriptek.com/scriptek/downloads/SpamProofer.exe
Direct form site
The Spam Proofer program allows you to 'hide' the email address that is shown on your website(s) from 'email robots' that wander the web trying to collect YOUR address for spamming (UCE, or Unsolicited Bulk Email) purposes! Now you can stop them, by inputting your email address into the Spam Proofer...with the click of a button you can copy and paste the code right into your webpage! Visitors to your site won't know the difference, but if an automated robot comes along looking for email addresses to harvest, it won't even know yours is there. Plus, Spam Proofer will create the HTML for your mailto: links for you, no need to write the HTML syntax yourself. Just copy and paste. You can edit the actual link text, and optionally specify text to show up in visitor's "browser status bar" when they 'hover' their mouse over your link!
