Hide Desktop Icons

Guest

I am using Windows Professional Service Pack 2 and I want to hide all my
desktop icons WITHOUT removing them from the system.

I tried right clicking on the taskbar, but it ONLY shows desktop icon. When
I click on it, nothing happens. Right clicking on the desktop taskbar does
not work.

Can you give me detail instructions or procedures on how to hide all desktop
icons, so that i can see my picture on my desktop clearly WITHOUT the
interference of all those icons.

Thanks.

Found this using Google:

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT
Go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Look in the right pane for a value called NoDesktop.
If it exists, double click the NoDesktop value and set it to 1.
If it doesn't exist, right click in a blank area of the right pane,
select New, DWord value and name it NoDesktop.
Change its value to 1.
Log off/log on to see the changes.
Note, this will also prevent you from right clicking on the Desktop as
well.

If editing the Registry manually isn't to your liking, see
http://www.dougknox.com/security/scripts_desc/desktopicons.htm for an
automated fix for this.
This small VB Script will check for this setting and change it, or
create it if it doesn't exist.

I forgot to mention.

Show Desktop Icons will not display if you have unchecked:
Allow Web content to be added to the desktop
in TweakUI.

If this is unchecked:
TweakUI
[+] Explorer
Allow Web content to be added to the desktop
[[If this is unchecked then the ability to add Web Content to the desktop
will be disabled.]]

You will *not* see:

Right click Desktop | Properties | Desktop tab | Customize Desktop button |
Web tab

Or....

Right click Desktop | Arrange Icons By | Show Desktop Icons

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Value Name: NoActiveDesktop
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: 0 or 1
0 = Allow Web content to be added to the desktop
1 = Don't allow Web content to be added to the desktop

Also, *.jpg files will not be listed in...
Display Properties | Desktop tab | Background

"Show Desktop icons" and other options missing in the Desktop right-click
menu

In case you want an easier way, try this. Right click on your desktop, go
to Arrange Icons By and uncheck Show Desktop Icons. Everything is still
there, you just don't see them. Just re-check Show Desktop Icons to see
them again.

There is a better way.

Right-click on desktop, click on 'Arrange Icons By', Uncheck 'Show Desktop
Icons'.
Now for the better part.
On the Traybar (Right of the Quick launch) Right-click, Toolbars, Desktop
This will give you a menu (Like Quick Launch) with the word Desktop and twoto access your desktop content.
