i'm trying to access users c$ hidden share drives on their machine but
for some reason i can only do it on some machines but not others over
a domain.

the users that i can access have the windows firewall turned ON so
that shouldn't be an issue.

anything else i can check?

Sounds like you do not have the correct permission to access those files thru
the Group Policy.

i'm an admin and domain admin on this domain so i don't see how that
would affect anything.

if i can connect to certain computers, shouldn't i be able to connect
to them all? we don't have any permissions set for admins on the GP.

Domain adminsitrators are only used for setting access from Windows
Servers. If the domain is not completely within Active Directory
(like with NT 4) then you need to also set up permissions for the
domain administrator(s) in the local XP "administrator" access
settings.

Were any of these machines upgraded from Windows 2000? I don't recall the
details but I had a similar problem accessing upgraded machines through
"Computer Management" because of security changes from Win2k to WinXP. The
details are here. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278259/en-us . Sorry if
this is unrelated.

smlunatick: the machines are on the domain.

so i have a user who sits right next to me and he can access my hidden
share c$ but i can't access his. i can access his desktop through
remote desktop. so it isn't a connection problem.

Pretty sure all USER NAMES and PASSWORDS must be the same
