Hid.dll problem/question....

Charles W.

This morning my computer was acting strange. Normally, when the mouse is
moved, the desktop comes back. This morning the screen remained blank(even
the screensaver was not working).

After rebooting I get a message saying HID.dll is not a valid windows image
file.
I have no idea what happened except that now my APC ups is not loading at
boot up and if I try to reload the APC software i get another message that
says Failed to load dll: DRVUTIL. I don't know what to do to fix this.

Charles,

Speak to APC about PowerChute

HID - Human Interface Device (basically USB to you). Look into that area

Is the service stopped? START | RUN | 'services.msc' & press ENTER. Look for the HID
service running etc.

Are your other USB devices detected?

Last night I was able to get Windows running properly by running sfc
/scannow. This seemed to repair the HID.dll problem.

I uninstalled APC powerchute and reloaded it.

During the reinstall APC powerchute detected the previous installation of
Powerchute that was just uninstalled??

The program performed the uninstall again and then installed Powerchute
normally.

So far so good.

Now the Hibernate tab is gone from the power options menu.

????
